About Department:
The Department of Political Science performs research, training and dissemination work within the field of political science. Political science involves the systematic analysis of politics, political processes and institutions. The department currently employs 33 permanent academic staff, 16 research fellows, 3 postgraduates and 12 administrative staff. The department has approximately 1,000 students throughout its  Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD courses. The department is also responsible for three interdisciplinary Bachelor’s courses in International Studies, European Studies (EU) and Public Administration and Management, as well as a Master’s course in Peace and Conflict Studies (PECOS).
The department performs research through individual projects, internal departmental projects and collaboration with both Norwegian and foreign research institutes. Previously, the department was an assessment centre for the Power and Democracy research project and has recently been given a central role in UiO’s interdisciplinary research initiative Research Programme on Democracy (“Democracy as Idea and Practice”). Position Pay-Scale: 57 – 71 (438 500 – 571 300 depending on qualifications/service time).

Professorship Requirements & Outcome:
Political science at the UiO is organised into four core areas: public politics, comparative politics, political theory and international politics. Social science methodology also features prominently in the department’s teaching. The successful applicant will be expected to teach international politics, a field which includes all forms of politics played out between national governments, individual actors  and  official international bodies, as well as study of individual countries’ relationships with the rest of the world. Research in this area focuses on relations between states. Other players’ relations in an international context and the spread of international institutions are also a central part of this research area.
The successful applicant will strengthen existing research activities within the specialist area of International Politics, and must therefore document academic competence in this field.
The successful applicant will also be expected to teach at all levels (Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD) within the field of international politics. Applicants are therefore requested to document both their teaching and communication abilities as well as their experience of teaching within this subject area. The successful applicant may also, be given training assignments within other subject areas if required.
The basis of assessment will include the applicants’ academic, other professional, pedagogical and communications qualifications, together with their qualifications in management and administration as well as their personal attributes.  Emphasis will be particularly placed upon those qualifications that are clearly stated in the advertisement for the post.
The successful applicant must possess basic pedagogical competence. Applicants who cannot document such skills must acquire these within the first two years of appointment.
As a general rule, successful applicants will be invited to an interview as part of the appointment process, whilst a trial lecture may also be requested.

The teaching languages are Norwegian and English. If the successful applicant is not a native Norwegian speaker then he/she will be expected to be able to teach in Norwegian within three years of appointment.

Documentation Requirements:
The successful applicant will be expected to carry out administrative tasks associated with the post. The application must provide information on all qualifications, past posts, teaching experience, academic, professional and teaching activities as well as administrative experience. Applicants are requested to submit four copies of the following by the closing date:
- Application, CV, extended application form and attachments
- A list of academic papers with details of where they were published
- A summary of the academic papers which the applicant wishes to be given special consideration in the appointment process
- A summary/documentation of pedagogical competence, teaching experience, research presentations and other qualifications.
Applicants are requested to attach up to 10 academic papers which they wish to be given particular weight in the assessment of academic qualifications. The academic papers should be numbered and sorted into four bundles. In assessing academic qualifications, emphasis will be placed on research papers from the last five years.
