The United Nations University Institute for Sustainability and Peace offers The Master of Science in Sustainability, Development, and Peace Scholarships for the year 2010/11 in Japan
Scholarships are available for outstanding applicants. A scholarship covers the tuition fees, and provides a monthly allowance of 150,000 yen towards living expenses. 150,000 yen is the average monthly living cost for an international single student in Tokyo, although this will vary, depending on the lifestyle of the student. The monthly allowance will be provided for a maximum of 24 months. Travel costs to and from Japan, visa costs and insurance costs must be covered by the student.

The Harvard University in assocaition with The Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies offers The 2010 Summer Research Grants to Harvard Graduate Students for summer research travel from Harvard to Japan, and return
The Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies will offer several Summer Research Grants to Harvard graduate students in the humanities or social sciences whose work focuses on Japan. In addition to doctoral candidates, continuing students in Harvard Masters programs will be considered, as will graduating Harvard Masters students who will enter a Harvard PhD program in the following year. Applicants must usually have completed at least three years of Japanese language study, or have comparable proficiency in the language. Grants are normally for summer research travel from Harvard to Japan, and return.

The International Education Institute offers the Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for the year 2010/11 to Japanese Nationals at a top university outside of Japan
With financial support from the Japanese government, IIE in partnership with the IMF Institute administers the Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Advanced Studies. The goal of the program is to train Japanese nationals as applied economists to work either at the IMF or in their home administrations. Students in the program are expected to study macroeconomics or a related subject through the Ph.D. level at a leading university outside of Japan. Annually, up to seven scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to students with a record of high academic achievement.
