Established in 1981 for the purpose of encouraging research into the improvement of livestock, value enhancement by processing of end product or the marketing of primary meat produce. The Scholarship may be awarded with overseas tenure. The University of Otago offers The Otago Postgraduate Awards for the year 2011 in New Zealand
Postgraduate Awards are awarded by the University Council, on the recommendation of the Senate, to candidates in the first year of their thesis research for a Master’s degree. Tenure of a Postgraduate Award by a Master’s degree student is for one year, or until the thesis is submitted, (whichever period is the shorter.) Students must be in the first year of their thesis research to be eligible for an Award. A shorter period of tenure shall be awarded in cases where four months or more of registration as a candidate for the degree have already been completed at the time of the award. Overseas tenure of a Postgraduate Award is not permitted.

The University of Otago offers The N G Stewart Scholarships for the year 2011/12 in New Zealand
The N G Stewart Scholarship was established in 2003 with funds bequeathed by Norman George Stewart (1913 – 1997) through the Stewart Coomb Trust. Mr Stewart was Managing Director of the Dunedin company J K Mooney New Zealand Limited, an exporter of wool and skins, and also served as a Director of a number of Dunedin companies. After returning from service with the Royal Navy during the Second World War he became interested in assisting with the rehabilitation of disabled servicemen in Dunedin.

Established by the University of Otago Council in 2005 to celebrate academic excellence and cultural diversity, these scholarships are intended to encourage the progression of M?ori and Pacific Islands students into tertiary study. Up to 30 scholarships will be awarded annually, of which 20 to 25 will normally be to M?ori students, and the remainder to Pacific Island students.
