International Peace Research Institute and The Australian National University offers the Oslo Peace Postgraduate Scholarships to International Students for the year 2010/11 in Norway
The International Peace Research Institute, Oslo and The Australian National University’s Department of International Relations, in partnership with Bjørknes College, are offering a scholarship for Master of International Affairs Specialising in Peace and Conflict. The program brings together academics at the forefront of international relations, peace, and conflict research from two sides of the globe. Students spend one semester at Bjørknes College in Norway with faculty from the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO) pursuing courses in Conflict Resolution and Peace-Building, Ethics of Peace and War, and Gender and War. The international relations courses are taken at ANU in Canberra. Participants have full access to the specialist libraries of the Nobel Institute and PRIO.

About Department:
The Department of Political Science performs research, training and dissemination work within the field of political science. Political science involves the systematic analysis of politics, political processes and institutions. The department currently employs 33 permanent academic staff, 16 research fellows, 3 postgraduates and 12 administrative staff. The department has approximately 1,000 students throughout its Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD courses. The department is also responsible for three interdisciplinary Bachelor’s courses in International Studies, European Studies (EU) and Public Administration and Management, as well as a Master’s course in Peace and Conflict Studies (PECOS).
The department performs research through individual projects, internal departmental projects and collaboration with both Norwegian and foreign research institutes. Previously, the department was an assessment centre for the Power and Democracy research project and has recently been given a central role in UiO’s interdisciplinary research initiative Research Programme on Democracy (“Democracy as Idea and Practice”). Stilling Som 4-Year PhD Research Fellowship (SKO 1017) For Research Students At University Of Oslo – Norway 2009
Position Description:
Applications are invited for a 4-year Ph.D. research fellowship in Atmosphere-Ocean Dynamics at the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo, Norway (http://www.geo.uio.no). Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in meteorology, oceanography or a related field such as fluid mechanics.
The position is affiliated with the Section for Meteorology and Oceanography. The research group consists of six professors, four adjunct professors, seven Ph.D. research fellows and five Post-Docs. The group is located in the Oslo Centre for Interdisciplinary Environmental and Social Research – CIENS (http://www.ciens.no), and hosts the Strategic Research Initiative “Water as regulator in biogeochemical cycles”, which includes the announced position. We seek a Ph.D. candidate to work on certain related issues, such as how sea surface temperature affects the atmospheric circulation and the storm track, and how surface temperature reflects subsurface motion in the ocean. The emphasis will be on dynamical processes and on analytical and numerical models. However, we encourage applicants to submit a proposal outlining problems he or she is most interested in. The project could then be tailored accordingly.
The Ph.D. scholar will also participate (25% of the time) in teaching at the Section of Meteorology and Oceanography (http://www.geo.uio.no/metos/). The teaching will be in Norwegian and/or English.

2010-2011 – The Norwegian Quota Scheme – Higher Education - Oslo University – Norway
The Norwegian Quota Scheme is a funding scheme offered by the Norwegian Government to students from developing countries, Central and Eastern Europe, and former Soviet states for studies at institutions of higher education in Norway. This funding scheme aims at offering specially designed, research-based Master’s Degrees taught in English. The Quota Scheme also offers funding for Ph.D.-programmes and a one-year course in advanced Norwegian Language. Quota Scheme applicants should come from universities/institutions with formal cooperation agreements with the University of Oslo.
Who May Apply:
Applicants for admission under the Quota Scheme must fulfill certain criteria in order to be considered for admission. Admission is limited and therefore extremely competitive.
How to Apply:
Due to the large number of Quota applicants to a limited number of Quota scholarships available, potential applicants must submit the online ‘Request for Application Form’ before they can receive the formal application form. The ‘Requests for Application Forms’ will be processed by the International Education Office and only applicants that fulfil all the formal Quota requirements will receive the application form. The deadline for submitting the online ‘Request for Application Form’ is 1 November, in order for the students to have sufficient time to submit the Quota Scheme application and the required documents before the 1 December application deadline.Students address their Quota application directly to the International Education Office at the University of Oslo.
Doctoral programme applicants must in addition send in their research proposal and application for admission to doctoral studies to the relevant faculty.
The Quota application deadline for enrolment in August 2010 is 1 December 2009. This is also the deadline for all supporting documents. Late applications will not be considered.

PhD Research fellowship in Polymers – organic materials available at Department of Chemistry, University of Oslo, Group for Polymers – organic materials, within DEPA (DEmanding Polyolefin Application)
The DEPA project was initiated by a consortium of industry partners (NEXAN and BREDERO), universities (UiO and NTNU) and research institutions (SINTEF and NORNER).
The fellowship period is 3 years and devoted to ageing mechanisms for elected materials under different and relevant environmental conditions. The objective is to understand how chemical aging (changes in the chemical structure, such as degradation) and physical ageing (structural changes not related to chemical bonds) are related to molecular characteristics, morphology, and additives (stabilisers). Characterisation and accelerated testing will be important tools. Various spectroscopic and microscopic techniques will be used to identify molecular degradation, chemical changes, and reaction kinetics during aging.
