Posted by admin on August 25, 2009

There are some students who get through their entire education on scholarship and save up on their parents and their money in the bargain. You might wonder how they come up a winner every time. Well, there are certain scholarship mantras which followed will enable you to get scholarships pouring in your direction.

Let us enumerate some of these:

  • Preparation is the key. If you prepare well in advance it will enable you to be ready with all the documents required for applying for a scholarship. There are several avenues to research the scholarships that you will be eligible for and which ones you want to apply to. Do not wait until the last moment.
  • Do not bank on anyone else to do your work. Do it yourself as you will know exactly how to approach it and what to do.
  • Go through your essays and applications with a fine comb.  Proofread and edit all the applications that you send as this is the first impression that people get about you. Pay special attention to correct spellings, grammar and punctuation. After you have done this ask someone else to go through and check the essays and applications. Errors that might have escaped your eye will be picked up by them.
  • Do not overlook any scholarships however, meager they might look. Even if you take all the small scholarships into account they might add up into quite a substantial amount. Also, consider local scholarships too.
  • Look at all the possible research avenues in a 360 degrees perspective. Research the internet, libraries, newspapers, colleges and by networking. You will be surprised at the amount of information that you can unearth in this manner.
  • You must sell your skills and value-addition to the university in your scholarship application. The words that you choose must highlight your positive attributes and be honest about the areas of development for you but at the same time underplay them. Your application must establish the can do attitude and the community support and involvement.
  • Apply to as many scholarships as possible and do not just stop at one or two. The more you apply to, the better will be your chances of getting a substantial amount.
  • Learn to be organized as that will save you a lot of time and trouble. Note down the dates for the applications, deadlines and documents required in an organizer to enable you to keep a track of it.
  • Portray a well-rounded personality. Someone who is not only good at academics but also at leadership, social work and sports. These are the things that will differentiate you from the scores of others who are applying for the same scholarship. Highlight the special talents that you have or any initiative that you have taken to benefit the community.
  • Lastly, there is no such thing as we will do everything for you. If you find someone offering you that for a fee you must stay away from it for certain.
