The School of Health and Human Sciences is offering up to three bursaries of £5,000 each for outstanding applicants to the full time one year Masters in Public Health or MRes Health Studies programmes commencing in October 2010.

The Proposal (Open) Studentship competition is held annually by the ESRC offering funding for 1+3 (masters attached to a PhD) and +3 (PhD) awards. For the 2010 competition there will be approximately 90 awards available.

This award covers full tuition fees at UK/EU rates is available this year.Eligible applicants assessed as UK/EU for tuition fee purposes and hold an offer of admission will be considered automatically.

In 1989 the Society received the whole estate of the late Mrs Agnes Dryerre, to establish a fund to be used principally to support research in physiology. The Fund is named after her late husband, Henry Dryerre, who was a Professor of Physiology at the Royal (Dick) Veterinary College, Edinburgh University. The Henry Dryerre Scholarship supports postgraduate research in medical or veterinary physiology and was awarded for the first time in 1991. This award is normally tenable for a period of three years in a Scottish Higher Education Institution, and is administered for the Society by the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland.

This Scholarship is Open to suitably qualified applicants who hold an offer for full-time MSc Community Eye Health or research courses in opthalmology and is awarded for the duration of the studies (maximum of three years).

The Goodman Derrick LLP Scholarship is For an undergraduate student in the School of Law and may be used to pay tuition fees, maintenance, accommodation and living costs as the recipient wishes. The scholarship will be paid to the chosen recipient by the University at the beginning of each academic year.

The SORSAS, funded by the Scottish Funding Council, is designed to attract high quality research students to Scottish Universities. The awards are open to overseas students undertaking a research degree and may be held in any field of study. Each award covers the difference between the tuition fee for a UK/EU graduate student and that chargeable to an overseas graduate student. The awards do not cover maintenance expenses. Subject to satisfactory progress, the awards are tenable for up to three years.

Wingate Scholarships are awarded to outstanding individuals of great potential or proven excellence who need financial support to undertake creative or original work of intellectual, scientific, artistic, social or environmental value and to musicians for advanced training. Awards are offered for independent research in most subjects, and aim to provide funding for multi-disciplinary projects that may not fall into any of the conventional funding categories. The scholarships are designed to help with the costs of a specific project lasting up to three years. The maximum award for one year is £10,000, although the trustees are seldom able to provide this amount.
